Bareback horse racing is an ancient and thrilling tradition in many societies around the world. The Palio di Siena in Italy is a famous example, as are numerous bareback races in Native American communities. Now, for the first time, these captivating events are linking in a completely new global bareback series of races, starting in 2011: The Palio World Cup.

The Palio World Cup (PWC) will be the most exciting horse racing event ever. Developed by the International Bareback Horse Racing Event Association (IBHREA), thirty-two racing stables will travel to 25 locations worldwide over a 10 month season.

Up to 200 horses and jockeys will compete in up to 600 races each year. Five Continental Grand Slams will also take place as part of the PWC, which will crown the best horses, jockeys and stables in each continent.

IBHREA was founded in 2006 by Roberto Pless, Neil del Storther and Stephen Dillane. The company was officially established in 2008 by Roberto Pless.
